Forum Users Group

The Forum Users Group is dedicated to the memory of a strange place in the distant past.

Once upon a time in the early to late 80's (give or take a few years), a strong community of CS majors and assorted friends were united online via a mainframe computer known as the CDC Cyber 750 (other models came before and after).

The magical thing about this mainframe consisted of three programs: Forum, Talk, and Confer.

Linked by Peachnet, all colleges in the University System of Georgia were linked and students could communicate in real time with each other.

Understand that this was in the days when the Internet was still in it''s relative infancy. Email and IRC were rolled out long after people were chatting and posting on the forums. 110 and later, 1200 baud were the speeds of the day.

This site is dedicated to relocating the original inhabitants of this magical and wonderful place.

The site was created by Voltaire on April 2nd, 2006. By April 19th it had 50 people. As of December 24th, 2007, there are 111 members with a relatively active forum system in 13 categories with 2773 messages and 146 pictures.

At which point the group mostly moved onto facebook. The facebook group itself has 62 members. This list has 119 active members which basically means someone who was on fuggers.org and/or on the facebook group but is otherwise easy to locate with multiple connections to know fuggers. In addition there are 14 found fuggers (which means at least one fugger knows how to contact that person), and 53 still missing (but the list is still in the process of being compiled and there are definitely names still completely missing from the list).

If your name is on the below list it is because there is a former fugger with YOUR NAME who is not on the fug list. If that person is you, please go to fuggers.org and register. Or send mjf fka Gwynedd an email and I will remove you from this list.

And for that matter if you aren't a person on this list but have information about people on this list, please send it to mailto:mjf@philmcrew.com and we'll update accordingly!

See also the fug page on wikipedia, and feel free to update. Hopefully noone will see it as too limiting and self-serving and remove it. That would be less likely if we link it in more ways to more similar concepts - say a writeup on the FTL BBS.
